- Taking systematic steroids medication and discontinuing them
- Intake of various drugs such as injections, chemotherapeutic agents, salicylates or calcipotriol
- Infection
- Sunlight or phototherapy

Thus, pustular psoriasis is a very serious condition which affects body internally and externally. Some of the common symptoms, if identified, are easy to be treated. In general form of pustular psoriasis, the skin first becomes fiery, red and tender. A person can suffer from headache, fever, joint pain, feeling of discomfort and nausea. After appearing on skin within a day, pustules fuses and forms lakes of puss that peel off or dry in sheet shape causing skin get reddish. The near area is affected and gives birth to new pustules. This process of pustules appearing, fusing, peeling and reappearing can last for several weeks and gives a feeling of being irritated and painful. If symptoms seem to improve, other symptoms such as headache or fever will disappear. In some people, bright red skin is usually observed. Pustules may occur at the ring edges. The edges get expanded and heal the centre. In all the above symptoms of pustular psoriasis, the skin becomes dry, red and painful with an effect of fever and muscle weakness.
Types of Pustular Psoriasis
Pustular Psoriasis is a typical and uncommon type of psoriasis that can be divided into two classes. The first is generalized pustular psoriasis and the second is localized pustular psoriasis. General is the one which is penetrated in various parts of body while in localized pustular psoriasis, it is limited to just one part of the body. Localized pustular psoriasis is further sub-divided as follows;
Acropustulosis
In this type only, the tips of the fingers are affected.
Palmo Plantar Psoriasis
It only occurs on palm of hands or the soles of feet.
The treatment can be carried out in a manner to restore skin’s natural function and chemical balance or by preventing additional fluid loss. Severe cases may force the patient to get hospitalized. This includes usage of antibiotics in case of infection along with bed rest, rehydration, etc. If the patient is bothering or getting exhausted due to continuous triggering of pustular psoriasis, doctor will then prescribe systematic drugs for treatment which will include acitretin or methotrexates, cyclosporine, oral steroids or PUVA.
Although pustular psoriasis is considered to be a rare form of the disease, it proves to be one of the most dangerous forms due to the fact that it is having both internal and external effect on body. Treatment varies widely and many different drugs have been documented as being successful.
